As a pioneer in the production of ornamental plants in Portugal, VIPLANT’s location in the Algarve is no coincidence. This region has the best climate in Southern Europe for growing Mediterranean ornamental plants, with optimal conditions in both light and temperature. More than 100 varieties of ornamental plants are grown and propagated in the nurseries, including various species of climbers, shrubs, palms and succulents, until reach perfection for sale.

VIPLANT is guided by highquality standards and is characterised by continuous investment in production techniques and technologies, both for export to Europe and for domestic sales. The most advanced techniques ensure effective and sustainable results and, together with good manufacturing practices, have enabled the company to achieve MPS and Global G.A.P.GRASP certifications. These certifications reflect VIPLANT’s commitment to safe agricultural practices and sustainable plant production.

From Algarve to the world, VIPLANT operates on more than 40 hectares of land, with approximately 10 hectares dedicated to heated greenhouses and shade structures. Production is divided across three nurseries with different characteristics: Paderne, Monte Brito, Alte and Silves. Each year, VIPLANT produces approximately 1.4 million plants, of which 70% are exported to Europe, mainly to the Netherlands, France, and Germany. The remainder can be found in the main Garden Centres and retailers in Portugal.

Paderne (Quinta do Parral)

It all started at this nursery in Paderne, where VIPLANT was founded and the first plant developments began. At this nursery, VIPLANT became a pioneer in the production of Dipladénias, currently growing around 300,000 units per year in different colours, varieties, and shapes. This process is carried out with the utmost dedication and rigour, always with the aim of obtaining plants of the highest quality.

In addition to Dipladenias, this production centre grows many other species such as Alamandas, Ornithogalum, Leptospermum, succulents, Vitis, among others. What do they all have in common? They are grown under a single premise: to achieve excellence.

Monte Brito and Alte

At this nursery, with a milder climate and a larger open area, different species of Lavandula, Nerium, Eugenia, Callistemon, Chamelaucium, Metrosideros, among others, are grown, both annuals and perennials adapted to the Mediterranean climate. Our greenhouses also house the Bougainvillea ‘Alexander’ and its colours, one of the first plants developed by VIPLANT. This plant is one of the most exported and sought after in the national market, with more than 100,000 units leaving this nursery every year, in different colours and shapes.

Silves

This is our newest nursery, where we produce hibiscus, agapanthus, anigozanthus, solanum and miniature olive trees, among others. Hibiscus is particularly prominent at this production centre, where over 80,000 plants are grown each year, using hardy varieties that are well adapted to different climates. Hibiscus is produced in two forms: bush and tree. Most of this production is exported, but, like other plants, in spring and summer, these hibiscus can be found at VIPLANT Garden Centres and other nurseries across Portugal.

What is a plant nursery/arboretum?

A plant nursery is designed to cultivate and multiply a wide variety of woody plants, mainly trees, shrubs and perennials, until they become suitable for transplanting or commercialisation. From the Algarve to the world, we work on more than 30 hectares, spread over 3 nurseries: in Paderne (Quinta do Parral), Alte (Quinta da Gralheira) and Silves (Sítio do Lobito). We have around 10 hectares of heated greenhouses and shade shelters. Every year, we produce around 1.4 million plants in our nurseries. We specialise in the production of Mediterranean, ornamental and subtropical plants. 70% are exported to Europe and the rest are commercialised in Portugal. There are more than 100 varieties of climbing plants, shrubs, herbs, trees and palms. From Dipladénias and Bougainvilleas, to Lavandulas, Loendros or Hibiscus, to Succulents and Aromatics, among many others.
